Just bought an SP-404sx need some help.

Post by Mamba »

Well hello everyone I just bought this SP-404sx for a good price.. and I am originally an FL producer so I made the switch to this. I have a few questions.

- How do I quantize the drums ?
- How can I loop drum breaks to perfection ?
- Any sample techniques I need to know ?
- How to record on to FL so I can edit the song?

- How do I quantize the drums ?
use the Pattern Sequencer
- How can I loop drum breaks to perfection ?
practice- keep adjusting the start/end points till it feels right
- Any sample techniques I need to know ?
just scroll through the forum posts- too many to list!
- How to record on to FL so I can edit the song?
either place the separate samples from SD card to FL or play whole song into FL. If you used resampling technique instead of the Pattern Sequencer you can grab the file right off the SD or just play it into FL.

Have fun and read that manual back to back and keep it and these forums at the ready for when you need to figure something out.

Yeah the manual! I used to hate reading manuals thinking I was smart. Man, the number of little details I learned for the SX, from reading parts i've never read is amazing.

Little trick to loop right: a good way to find the end of a sample is by pressing reverse and then, mess around with the end knob. It's a trick I got from this site and works wonders.

Other little tricks:

Let's say you need to mute tracks while the sequencer is playing, you can always use the "voice transpose" button, turn the 3 buttons down. There's others MFX effects you can use for that too. Also, I'll do that sometimes when I need an enveloppe or for fade in and fade out. Except that I'll use the third button as a volume button. The wet/dry button.

Also, you might get frustrated at first with polyphony but you become really good at gauging which samples that need or can be mono. And if you need more shit stereo you can always resample like a muthafu__ka'..

ah yeah and talking "Voice trans", that weird effect that you never use. Well, it affects formants, so it really is for voice and is really cool for robotic voice effects but it works great to on synths and basses sometimes. enough, experiment and have fun, and always wear protection. peace
