Now, don't get me wrong, Star Trek is dope and all, but I'm not a super nerdy fan. I do, however, really dig the computer interface design from Picard onward. I also like black backgrounds with cool colors for details.

So it turns out this shit is called LCARS (I won't even get into the fanboi shit I had to tread to find this out) and there's quite a few little 'gadgets' that have that look. So I downloaded a theme for win7 to make windows itself look all cool then got this other thingy called lcarsx32 which is like a replacement window manager thingy, installed some fonts, changed firefox's default formatting to override sites i visit so it's all homogeous and now i'm rocking a 24th century computer system.

Shit's cool.

Here's some screenshots. If anyone has questions about this shit, feel free to ask. Otherwise, enjoy some nerdy shit on my compy.

Looks like a cross between 80s video game and the interface of 90s design aesthetic.

looks cool. I was into UI design for a few years but just kinda moved to audio. it's easier than actuall computer programming as it is design based,
wont go into the details unless someone needs some tips, but remember windows 98. ? I didnt have internet all the time in high school, so on my family computer I could only use fruity loops. then I found out you can right click the desk top and enable web mode. then you can use HTML to design your own workspaces and interfaces, with hyperlinks to anything inside windows. dont think you can do that anymore. I'm on linux moslty now, and there is a real wicked gnome desktop that recently came out, it is a little laggy, but it is taking UI design to the next level with animations and pop out sidebars and docks. I think the beryl 3D desktop is pretty innovative too, but it uses alot of resources unless you have the latest fastest laptop. anyway peace. !!

A friend of mine suggested to also try out Rainmeter.

It's a desktop customization tool. There's LCARS shit for it too.

And to answer the 'looks 90s' comment, the initial design was made in 88 or so, so I guess it does look 90's. I don't care. It's easy on my eyes. :)
