So I only just realised the monotron has an audio input, doesn't this make it a piece of essential kit for everyone for that bargain price??? Does anyone use the aux on the monotron? Surely the sound sculpting capabilities are endless? What if I put my volca bass through it? Basically should I just order one of these little mother fuckers?

I like the delay unit better from what I have seen and the Duo unit sounds way more versatile and nutty-

"and an auxiliary input.
This is where the fun goes into overdrive. Connect the mini-jack output to your mixer (probably adding delay or reverb) and you start to really hear the Monotron’s... authenticity. The filter cuts through like a knife — one of those slasher ones that always makes a mess. Pretty much the first thing you’ll want to do is put something through it. You don’t need to touch the ribbon to hear the filter’s effect on your audio: just plug in and experiment with the filter and LFO knobs. Unusually, the external signal doesn’t patch out the VCO, so you’re free to throw that in too, whenever you like.
The filter sounds great when processing the Monotron’s own oscillator, but it’s a different beast entirely when unleashed upon unsuspecting audio. Use it to add analogue colour (or inflict real damage) on any material you like. Drum loops, other synths; I found the results especially impressive on keyboards and samples, but anything is fair game. As filters go, this one is never polite and sometimes teeters on the very brink of chaos."

I have both the monotron duo and monotron delay. I often route the duo into the delay and then into a sampler. The delay is DIRTY - loud, hissy and downright grungy. I love it for all these reasons. For 40 bucks, I highly recommend grabbing one - plus you will be able to make space efx, bleeps and bloops until your heart's content.

Stock up on AAA batteries though - and be aware that the monotrons use the mini inputs - 3.5mm, not 1/4 inch.

I used both montrons like crazy on this project here:

Have fun!

Loving the EP man- great stuff. I love lo-fi and I love Star Wars.Glad you shared!!
Too bad the monotrons do not have power jacks. Prob could wire something up though myself.

EDIt- ignore- following link input controls pitch- not what I thought which was processing analong input- basically uses analog input to control pitch of the oscillator or whatever.

Hmm, I know 1/8" in and of itself would not make any difference in terms of physical signal transmission. Maybe an extra long or extra cheap 1/8" cable -maybe-.There are many tech things that affect the sound quality. Might depend on how you were using it and the signal chain and devices being used. Signal paths, gain stages, converters, all play a part. Or you may just think it does not sound good and that is that!
:)

Get a new cable ...and some rechargeable batteries

Monotron has some of the dirtiest low buzzy bass for the price of peanuts

The aux-in is mono. And it has some crazy hiss.

Pair it with your sp and resample some bass notes.
Poor mans synth

Its also analog. Both the adjustable waveforms and filter.

I use the monotron delay regularly.

Thought I'd chime in here because I have all three monotrons. The duo is cool but not as versatile as the other two IMO. You're going to want that delay after playing with the duo. They are fun as hell to fuck around with but I like the delay the most. You can definitely get dope sounds using the ribbon but using the line in to change up your samples is what's up. I have a Bliptronic 5000 that I used to run through the monotron delay to give it a little reverb and make it sound like less of a toy and it works really well. I'm really into small synth/toys like these. For something that costs $50, the filters on these are amazing. One thing you'll want to know is there's a small red button on the back of the duo near the on/off switch that changes the scales that the ribbon plays. It took me a long time to figure out what that was for. I guess instructions would mention that but I probably threw mine out.
