Decay on the 303

Is there anyway to do this? Like a ninja trick or anything? I'm pretty comfortable with the 303 now but the only things I'm only really missing is adding decay, like on the MPC, and proper tuning/pitching (but that's a different subject).

It's mainly for drums as I drop a breakbeat in the SP and just chop it up. But when I've chopped it, the chops and all that sound too "harsh" for my liking. Of course I could do it on the PC but that takes the fun away from doing the most things in the box.

i will sometimes do this..

1. start off with single drum hit
2. press isolator and have all knobs at 12 o clock (no noticeable change to sample)
3. resample and turn down the low freq. partway through the sample where you want it to "decay"
4. repeat step 3 with middle freq.
5. repeat step 3 with high freq.

this might take practice but in resample mode you can try over and over til you get it right.

Good tip. I have resampled things making very quick adjusts to an effect or parameter. Fun!

Why not try a real ninja move and do all 3 knobs at once during resample? You could even use an object that can move all 3 knobs at once like a wood paint stirrer or something.

Ya I hear you fully- just a fun suggestion and another angle- There have been times when some effects I have used make unique sounds when 2 of the knobs are adjusted slowly at the same time vs 1 knob at a time.

You can do this in one knob, one pass with the SUBSYNTH effect instead. Turn the threshold so that it never triggers the sub, start with knob 3 at 12 oclock and rotate it to the right for your decay during the sample.

you could always speed up the BPM of the sample so it cuts off faster.

And if it stutters, you can use the isolator to remove some high end (which is where the stutter sounds usually are).
