Question with effects

I am still starting out with the 404...

I have an issue where if I'm playing a sound, with hold, and trigger a new sound with an effect, I can't figure out how to have effects apply to the sound that's still playing without starting it over. Is there a way to apply effects to a sound that's currently playing?

For other stumbling onto this question, the REMAIN button can be used to turn on effects for a pad.
