Removing Sp-404sx Faceplate
Hey Guys,
I was wanting to remove the front plate of my Sp-404 to spray paint it a custom color. Has anyone ever done this before? I see two screws on the top where the Midi and Rca plugs are but one of them looks like it might be a ground connection? Theres also the 4 silver allen key looking divots on the front. Lastly, theres the 6 screws on the bottom where the batteries go.
What have some of your experiences been for people that have successfully disassembled your 404? I want to customize my 404 but I also dont want to break anything or electrocute myself. posting.php?mode=post&f=3#
Also, Pics would be greatly appreciated if anyone has ever photographed the process.

Pull off the knob covers and remove the few Allen wrench screws on the top faceplate. It should take less than 5 minutes.

don't do it!
get one of these: http://www.styleflip.com/categories_nam ... 4-sx-p-245
can upload any artwork you want + add the stock sp404sx words/guides on top of you artwork. they also come off super clean, so you could change them round whenever you want. here's my friend's 404 with style flip and DJ tech tools' chroma caps:

I went for it! Thanks for the heads up on the vinyl overlay but that wasnt really what I was looking for. I dont really need the text on the front ive memorized most of the functions and effects that I need. Im going to do a little custom airbrushing on it experiment with colors. I think The font and the writing is kinda what made the 404 look a little tacky?
I will post pics when done thinking about also adding some Chroma Caps. Before I pull the trigger on these, would you guys reccomend the Fatty's or the Supers? I had also read I could find some knobs at a hardware store? I will check in to that today.

the fatty's are the way to go!
The website ships really fast by the way! Not sure about right now, being so close to the holidays, but I received my knobs in three days! And they ship from the uk I believe!
I also thought I could find some knobs at a Radioshack, but they had whack ones that are not worth buying.
Really considering buying a customized skin from that website, but I feel like there should be a easier and less exspensive way of making your own personal skin. If only we had the layouts of the 404 we could just print them ourselves at our local Kinkos, STAPLES etc.

Home made graphic.
Thanks for sharing this old thread!
Where did you buy all those products for the skin?
And when you found the image you liked as a skin, where did you print it at? (Home Printer)

The spray mat glue and contact paper can both be bought at wal mart or any type of store like that. Prolly $10 for both.
I cut the image out of a book. It's on a thicker stock than regular paper so it was easier to cut out without tearing anything.

I'd like to add that Ducktape makes sheets now, same size as the 404 plate and in many colors and patterns, and like 2 dollars each... I'm thinking of doing mine bright yellow

I've seen those and only figured people used them for car repairs
.....years later and I still wish I could get my hands on one of those official colored 404og covers that were given away for one of the battles here. All of the colors look good in their own way.

Can that be found at your local warehouse store or Wal-Mart?
