Headphones for Production

I been using the AKG 240s
for a while. Looking to spice things up a bit and try something new. What's everyone else using?

Got some lovely pioneers, I build tracks using them to save my neighbours the torture of constant looping, then mix on the monitors.

you should mix with monitors AND headphones--that's just engineering 101. reverb sounds way louder in headphones.
in pro studios you will not see engineers use the akg 240 for mixing so much. that's more of a live room overdubbing/tracking can. i have seen engineers mix/beats made with sony mdr-7506 even though they add coloration. that is a classic headphone that's seen everywhere, been around forever and will be around in the future. the beyerdynamic 770 is also solid if you wanna drop $200

yeah but the studio is isolated , so i make beats with my headphones , too much trouble with neighbours

Hell yeah dude, that's why I do most of the work on headphones, had noisy ass neighbours before and it ain't no fun!

Sony mdr7506 for me. I don't really care if they're not flat, they're LOUD

made my last album on rip off dr dre beats, way better then the garbage koss's I use that limit the bass out. it added nice color, and it came through nice when mixing on speakers. but it's tricky using garbage headphones, good thing those broke quick so i can move on to a new sound,

when I listen to my shit on a 300 watt amp, in my house with paper thin walls, it makes me just want to quit sometimes, always trying to get a perfect mix, but the snare or kick is never right, because bad monitoring on the mix.

they sound pretty great (though they are headphones so mixing isn't ideal), but they are close backed, so no distractions as far as outside sounds go, and they are comfortable as all get out. you can wear them for hours and not even realize you have them on.

gonna advise to stay away from the dre stuff. those are just so colored they are meant to make anything sound good. it should be the complete opposite. if your monitors sound tinny and harsh your mix will most likely boom on regular speakers. this is why every studio using the ns-10's lead to the disco smile (look it up) in the 1970s where highs and lows are boosted & mids cut.
also check out the AIAIAI tma-1 young guru edition--he designed them specifically to be like a headphone version of the ns-10. overly transparent to uncover any flaws in the mix
