The name sucked as well as the glowing blue low rider lights. Looks like an American Asians souped up car lights. Or those dum ass lights that go around your license plate so the cops can see your plates easier. It was marketed really bad, probably didnt have a lot of money but it seemed like they were trying to battle the mpc in the worst possible way. Weird pad layout, its like, someone already figured out how well the 16 4x4 grid of pads work well for hand drumming and they were like "fuck that". When you look at it long enough you can see a lot of weird things in their design they make it undesirable for anyone who has ever touched an mpc or an sp.

It has a line in on the back. If it still doesnt sample then that would be retarded.

I think they are like 699 now...i did some reading on it since they dropped the price, has some interesting stuff (decent memory storage, synth patches, rechargable battery) but overall the consensus seemed to be it was a huge pain to operate (coming from MPC or SP) and not very logical...also I guess a lot of the effects are literally free VSTs they jammed in there, but when i heard some of them on youtube they seemed pretty low quality.

For 250-300 might be worth a try, just to see....

Well, the Beat Thang is like the ugly duck of samplers!

It's actually a LOT better than you'd assume from the name and dumb marketing of how they are treating us like idiots. :P

There's also a new BKE Beat Thang 1.3.0 version out now which is supposed to be a lot better on the software side of things, faster processor also than the 1st generation. It's hard metal casing is also pretty nice actually.

The Beat Thang has a decent integration with software, much better than most other samplers out there, but ... it's pad lay-out is just crazy.

They should have given us 4x 4 style 16 pads instead and it could have been a true contender. With the 'piano' lay-out of pads, anyone used to using 4x4 pads will have to re-learn their finger drumming techniques again. What were they thinking with essentially only 13 pads?

It's portability is pretty awesome though, even when it's battery life is only like 4 full hours. As far as sampling goes, it's as good as any other sampler out there, so you can't quite go wrong with it assuming you pay the right price for it. 1000$ is crazy, 500$ is more like it.

The 1.3 version is only a firmware update. The processor is still the same as is the rest of the hardware. They may have intentionally or non-intentionally given the impression that it was a new generation but it is not. Someone even asked them point blank about it on their Facebook page and they admitted that it was not a new processor but the new firmware "..optimizes the processor" so it acts like a new processor.

He should have just kept it real and stated that it was a firmware update with bug fixes, etc.
