Sampling bass guitar into a 404

Anyone got any experience of this?

I've got a XLR out of my bass amp, and I was toying with hooking that up to the mic hole, or maybe the line in RCA ports. Which would be better?

I realise I could just hang a mic near my amp, but I kinda want to incorporate the 404 into some kind of live set up, and a direct signal would be better, I think.

Thoughts?

xlr out should be line out so it would be better to connect it to the rca line in. mic input will work too but it will distort if your line out level is too hot.

Yeah. Done this a few times. Just plugged it straight into the 404 mic input and adjusted tge level dial on the front. Sounds really nice with the lofi button on

Right, I've tried both of these suggestions, and have encountered problems with both routes.

If I use an XLR-RCA lead, I get a real nasty buzzing noise, no matter what I do with the levels at either end.

And if I just jack my bass straight into the Mic slot, it distorts terribly, no matter what I fiddle with, until I get everything turned right down. Then, it just seems too quiet. My bass is an active one, if that makes a difference.

With the buzzing on the line in method, does that have anything to do with earthing the 404? I've noticed there's an earth screw thing on theback, but am not sure what to do with it.

Sorry to be a bother, I'm kinda new to all this side of things, having traditionally been 'just' a bass player.

Not too sure what to suggest, did you lower the volume on the bass too? Ive never used an active bass so have no idea. Maybe you.could just record straight into you computer and then import the recording into your sp.

Ah, cheers for the input. I'm trying to avoid the PC as much as possible, though, so as to lug as little kit onto stage as possible.

I'll keep plugging away, and I'll post my findings in case anyone feels the need to do what I'm doing.

Yeah sorry I wasn't clear there. I meant just recording into whatever you use to record and then importing it onto your card you're using for your sp. Kindve sampling youre own recording I guess

Interesting.... I should try this with my guitar one day. I would love to use MFX10 to get that funk bass.

I plug my acoustic in all the time, sounds good but pickup is active. Will try my electric and see how it works out.
