Compression-Distortion Clipping
There's a sound in a lot of lo-fi music that I'm trying to get after, if I could describe it in words its almost like the audio is clipping very rapidly giving it this grated texture. Again, it's generally with lo-fi stuff. I just wanted to ask if there was a name for this, or if there was a way to capture it with the SP-404. Thanks.

bit reduction? time stretch?
if you post an audio example someone will nail it for you guaranteed

Yo yos right, its most likely sampling in the low bit rate lo-fi modes on the sp's, the sp202 for example can have a dirty digital harshness to it, but it sounds great, then adding compression and even recording to cassette makes it sound even better. But having an example would be best, even looking what sp/equipment was used would help

Sure, here's me accidentally sort of stumbling upon it in one song. You hear how the lower frequencies are sort of buzzing? I am using an SP-404 and I think I used the vinyl sim and compression mfx.

Here's another example, it's really prominent here, though I don't know what the guy used beyond ableton (as he told me)
