SP555: Using USB recording to do layers of effects

So I've found this interesting workflow for the SP555 USB recording method...As you know, you can't track out multiple tracks while listening back to the previous ones; the SP555 will record everything going on to that new track, so you are kind of stuck with one stereo track

However, if you play that track back while a new track is armed and recording in your DAW, you can apply whatever FX you want on the SP, and it will be recorded to the new track that way. By doing this you can keep layering effects on the first track, and then as you go the latest track will be the 'master' and the previous ones can be deleted or muted.

Example workflow:

1. Record Pattern/resample beat to DAW on track 1 (stereo) - use whatever effect you want, compression, bit crush
2. Add new track to DAW, arm track , record - this time, add effect variations - timed delays, DJFX stutters, filter sweeps - this now becomes your NEW master track, you can delete track 1.
3. Add new track to DAW, we're going to use this like a parallel effect....choose another effect this time and set it to 100% effect (wet vs. dry) - for example, reverb, tape echo - now arm and record on this track.
You'll keep track 2, but you can slightly blend in this new track to taste, and it will work as an effect return would on a mixer

Now you have a track that would have been impossible without extensive resampling on the SP, and using track 3 as the effect return-type track you have alot of control on the sound. You can keep adding tracks this way, and use cut/copy / volume swells and dips to mix and match the best parts.

cool, this also works for the MASTERING effect on the 606, so you dont need software fx, but sometimes the soft fx sound better, the best quality is straight stereo in, what works decent is, once you have your master stereo track recorded, you can switch sound cards and do over dubs with an anolog signal. .

Church. I have been doing a mix of what both of the guys above said. Like bonkers said if u want to do tracked out overdubs just switch the sound card. So for blav's method have your input and output on your daw be 555/606. Then if u wanna do tracked out overdubs assuming u have a seperate interface. Change your input and ouput to other soundcard/interface. Then plug outs of your 555/606 into in on other interface. If u use this approach u shouldn't hafta unplug anything ever. Let the resample chaos begin.
