i wonder if there is such thing, like a midi controller, that has stop, record and play, rewind and stuff, for my multi track, so i can control it from far away. ? i want to do this, so i can record away from my recorder because it whines loud, and because my stop button is dying.

Steinberg (cubase company) behringer and korg makes these. korg had those nanoKontrol and behringer just came out with a line of controllers to do almost everything, just have top find one with midi out. Thats the part im unsure of. Im sure that have some old vintage ones that dop this since everything now a days is usb with no midi connections.

Come to think of it, an iphone with a midi interface could totally do this as well. Maybe with a 3 dollar app. If you have an iphone already of course.

cool thanks , for the replys:
the alesis thing looks like a dinosour, maybe it can also program the gm drum tracks and midi instruments inside the tascam studio.

anyway, i dont have an iphone so i will keep looking for a dedicated controller, it really only needs play stop and record, rewind, I am almost
ready to abandon the tascam for a workstation and use it as a mic pre, since i am able to use digital connections now, i will be able to capture the bit depth and sample rate at 48 khz. and still sound like 24 bit just like the tascam, with out the head aches of no visual editing.

damn, i also need a transport controller for my 606. I just opened it again and sprayed the buttons with duster, it works a little bit. I think the 606 is playing tricks on me though, because for some things, pressing enter works no problem, for other things, i have to put 10 pounds of force on it to work.

maybe another one could be the evolution uc33, cheap and cool. and if you're scared by dinosaurs this is not one of them :)

well i think i'm going to order a new panel board for my 606 instead, this will fix my broken buttons,

well the UC33 looks good, and affordable, it looks like this will work, i hope it sends the right signals, I wonder how to switch tracks and activate recording mode or do mutes.
