can someone tell my how to pull up a black project? And how do I make the two talk to each other

I dont understand your question
Ohhhh - do you mean 'blank project'? - if so then you simply save a blank project as the template file and you're away. 2nd q - do you mean how do you get the SP and the software to communicate? If so then you simply plug in the USB, power on, select 'ext control', start the software and it's go time.
