I'm trying to decide on a mixer for live shows to connect a yamaha piano and my 404.
I was mostly considering the option of sampling the piano my friends playing live and looping it so he doesnt have to be playing it the whole beat, but would the chain have to be piano>mixer>404? or could both be plugged in the mixer and the effects could still work on the 404..

If the 404 has to be the end of the chain for this to work, and it would be the out for connection to the venue, would that make the sound bad? would it be pointless to spend 700+ dollars on say a pioneer or denon 4Ch mixer if its just going to connect the piano to the 404 instead of being the sound output? because i would also like the use the effects on those but I guess I just need to know how all this would work before I purchase one.

If anyone has a similar setup (maybe with a synth or something) could you help me figure this out?
thanks alot!

Hmmm...you'd most likely need to purchase a looper pedal for this. I can see it working fine with 404 as final output in the following chain:

PIANO -> LOOP PEDAL -> 404. I don't think you'd need a mixer for this and loop pedal can turn on/off the loop at will. Just be advised it won't have an midi sync likely. Here's some looper pedals for you to look at:

Thanks for the reply!
I actually have one of those laying around! I stashed it away because i thought it would be useful for something like this, thanks for the idea

So an overall question about mixers, if i can use the looper, would it be best for the quality of the audio to have one? and have the sp404 and piano both in it and use the mixer as the main out?

I don't think you'd really notice that much of a difference personally. If you were daisy-chaining like 5 or 6 pieces of gear, then I'd opt for a mixer. But for just 3, it shouldn't be too bad. But nothing is stopping you from getting one either. I just think if you're going to have to buy a mixer for this purpose, it's not going to be worth it for this specific case just to cut out a tiny bit of noise.
