Hi,
First off thanks to locotesmjr for posting this guide, I used it as the basis to to fix my RCA connections. Its an easy job which requires minimal soldering experience.

I am now trying to the 505 apart further and have hit a snag, I have removed all the screws from the top board and am now attempting to remove the board from the plastic cover and remove the 505 pads.

As I said I have removed all screws, as well as the one obscured by the sellotape close to the ribbon cables. I can see no other screws but the board can still not be lifted off. Careful jiggling suggests that the 3 CTRL knobs in the center are preventing this.

Can anyone please confirm how to remove this board without breaking it? Has anyone removed the CTRL knobs safely?

Haha, not two seconds after I post this, I looked agin at the display mod tutorial and saw that it said to remove the CTRL knobs, I did and the board came away.

Just saying thanks for this tutorial! I Just succesfully brought my RCA-outs back to life.. they'd been hit, the red plastic had broken it's little tag so the sockets had pushed into the machine, and the pins had lifted some of the traces off the board... managed to solder some little bits of wire from the pins to the surface mount thingies.. and make all the other solder pins strong.. hopefully it'll hang together for a while now

Anyone that's taken their 505 apart, could you tell me if you need to have the control knobs in a certain position to remove them? the data wheel comes off no problem, but I really feel like its going to break if I pull on the control knobs any harder. Or is it just a case of really giving it some force?

Much appreciated if anyone can help, left out has died and I really want to have a crack at fixing it.

not any special position, just pull them, yours might be pressed so hard that's why they are stocked, but they should come out with some force...

Thanks again for this post Ving. Got around to doing it today and it went without a hitch. Managed to prize off the cntrl knobs (they were really stuck on).Same story, a little cracked ring around the solder. Removed the old stuff and applied a little bit to each point. Working great now, cheers.

BTW this post should be a sticky post, same as the tutorial to custom the display...

somebody who can contact the mods should suggest that.

yeah, I took a look inside but tbh I have no idea where to begin lol. I just put it back together before I ruined it even more.

there should be at least 2 points where each rca input is sodered to the board. one for ground and one for the signal. search youtube for a tutorial on fixing an RCA and youll get the idea of what to do. Or post a pic and I can try and see. fixing the RCAs on a 202 is fairly simple but I have no idea what a 505 is like
