Hi,

I just got the 404 and am going through the manual page by page but I got stuck on the 'sample your own sounds' part on pg. 14.

My problem is that when I press [REC], it won't let me select any of the pads. Instead, [EXT SOURCE] lights up. Basically, I can't even get to step 5.

I can hear the music coming through my headphones but can't seem to select a pad to sample to. Very frustrating. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

make sure pattern select is off- hit record- select blank pad- hit record again.

Thanks for the reply, but I've actually already done that. 'Pattern select' is off but after I hit 'REC' it won't let me select a pad.

you got a card in there?
has it been formated in the 404?

There is a card in the machine but I have no idea if it has beeen formatted. I bought it on eBay so the card is not mine.

Okay, I just took the card out and tried again and it still won't work, even without the card. The [EXT SOURCE] keeps lighting up whenever I hit 'REC'.

i've got a feeling the 404 doesn't think there's a card there to record onto

maybe check out the memory card section of the manual and reformat it

if you delete some factory samples from bank B you can test to see if it will record onto those ones (bank A will be Protected if you just bought it)

Okay, I feel like an idiot. I got confused between banks A and B to the point that I thought that bank B was completely empty. It was, of course, completely full which is why it wouldn't let me select any of the pads for recording. Thanks for your last post Drewzle, that's what tipped me off.
