Still on first track but oh man, you are calling to the prog rock fan in me! What is interesting is that I watched a film just last night that had classic Yes tunes in it, was loving it. http://apollo18movie.net/
I just bought your EP, good work!

PS- also speaking to the BoC fan in me. Nice.

Glad you like it, man.

I used alot of gear on this. Roland SH-101, Juno-106, MicroKorg, SP-303, Casio SK-5, Short Circuit vst sampler, etc.

Me, I'm a jazz musician by trade. I picked up the guitar when I was 10. I started studying bebop when I was 14. I recieved a full scholarship to Berklee when I was 17* but I had a nervous breakdown and tried to commit suicide--and was subsequently diagnosed with bipolar disorder-- so I was essentially bouncing around the psychiatric system until I was about 20. When I was 24 I started taking drums seriously and so since then I've been studying jazz drums as well.

I generally spend alot of time studying music: transcribing Sonny Rollins solos, trying to mimic Dilla or Madlib beats, analyzing Wayne Shorter tunes, trying to play like Elvin Jones (I can do a so-so Elvin impression lol), learning about mixing and mastering, trying to make magic with just a cheap turntable and my SP-303, etc etc etc

But with this EP I was just trying to make a record that contained all of the elements of music that I study at the moment, from Brazilian batucada drumming to bebop melodicism and the concept of 'playing over changes', to post-Dilla wonkiness, to dissonance and other esoteric approaches to harmony...I tried to put it all in there, while still aiming for something cogent and meaningful and personal.

As far as other music of this type: this EP is it so far. But don't worry, there's plenty more on the way!

Cheers :D

*I generally don't mention this much anymore because it's exactly the sort of statement that a compulsive liar would say.

Wow, thanks for sharing! No wonder I like it so much, you have a lot of experience. I am a huge jazz head myself and guitar player as well as bass. I am an ear player though and never seem to devote the time to formal studies as I would like. (ie, none) But I have studied and been in bands with cats from Berlklee and I can hang, just not chordally. I can see learning more in the future though.

That is great you can transcribe CP and such.

Sorry to hear for your personal struggles man, I can empathize. I came to LA when I was 20 and lived in my car while I started Primal Therapy. Now it is 20 years later and I am still bat-shit crazy. ;) Far from it really, but the trials of life can really take you to highs and supreme lows. Glad you seem to be surmounting them ok.

Ya I love the tune with the Brazillian beat "Teenjoy Vestige".

I love music so much. I was chopping some Wayne Shorter on my 404 the other night on a hike and some In A Silent Way (Miles). I love Adam's Apple. I just bought 2 vinyl copies of Bill Evan's "Moonbeams" album one for a gift. One of my all time favs as well as 1st Weather Report from '72 etc.

I have recorded and engineered plenty and am recently getting back into no computer producing with SP etc. I love it. Sadly the Nakamichi cassette 4 track I just got needs repair and my repair effort today for my Tascam Porta One failed. There is still hope.

Good to meet you anyway- my name is Clifford BTW. Reality check- all these pseudonyms on the net are interesting but ultimately impersonal!

:)

C

PS- also used to play drums- not well- but recently ordered a Ludwig Breakbeats mini kit to get back to something I really really love which is drums. I used to practice independent limbs with "Song For My Father"
:)

Also key changes in Bad Posture somehow remind me of this track by Aaron Parks "Nemesis" which I love-
