cool face plate mod, for all sp's!!!

Post by L.C.W »

i was thinking of ways to make my own face plate to cover the boring 404sx one, the basic idea is to make one out of a cool record sleeve, or even a comic book page would work. I hope someone could expand on this.
also keep in mind youll lose the text that displays effect names etc (not too important if you remember the most used ones)

so you will need:

a sleeve (a thin cardboard one)
a scalpel
some thin double sided tape, as in the strips are thin
a bread board or something so you dont scratch your table
an alan key that will fit the four silver top faceplate screws
a ruler
a marker pen

follow the photos in the file i uploaded, i forgot to take one of the taping part.

cut sleeve in half down spine first
1 get face plate off

2 get sleeve u like

3 try to measure out where the bulk of the pattern will go, so when you flip the sleeve over you know roughly the area to use

4 lay the faceplate down in the right spot and trace out the holes

5 use a scalpel or box cutter and cut out those lines/holes (this will take a while) try cutting without the faceplate there using the ruler for straght cuts, make sure you cut so theirs no pen lines left, or the pads wont slip through

6 (optional) now flip it over and draw on black boxes around certain buttons

7 put the face plate back on and put double sided tape on top of the original faceplate in every gap you can also along the side outer flaps

8 now place your new sleeve face place over the top and press down firmly in all the spots were theirs tape is underneath.

9 put screws back in

i will end up doing another as i was just testing the idea myself, but i will pick a better sleeve for my next one. its almost 2am here so i hope ive made sense here lol

I think styleflip.com has custom decals at good price, you can have your own design printed and you still getting all the lettering over the design, also you can remove this in case you get bored of it and the adhesive they use will not damage your original faceplate.

style flip is definitely cool, especially if you want the text, this way costs less tho, and is a bit more creative/original i think. Since it only uses double sided tape i really doubt it would damage the metal face plate.

I agree with you about this is cheaper, but IDK how much more creative is this than the other, actually I don't think you need to use too much creativity to do something similar BUT I can feel you in the fact that DIY gives you a special satisfaction, bigger than just paying someone else to do the work for you...
At the end it is only how you feel about your work, not what others think... I was just giving you my comment, so cool
