Hey guys, can't wait to get me a SP-606!!! What I'm on here to ask is a bit generic and gay but...can the sp-606 speed up samples of voices a la kanye west...? I know its more of a MF DOOM/Madlib buzz on these forums but as I know feck and all I was just wondering if it has this ability,

The SP will be able to speed up/slow down samples, as well as pitch shift them, however, depending on how much your stretching/shifting, their may be considerable quality loss. You can effect your samples with any recording software then sample it via USB to the SP.

The one big stinker about the SP-606 is YOU CAN'T PITCH samples like with other samplers- no chipmunk style shit. It has a pitch shifter effect, which is more like a guitar pedal, and it has BPM 'beat matching' which is NOT like pitching (tuning), rather more like poor quality time-stretching.

It is still friggin' awesome- use records and pitch them when you sample for a work around-

Cool guys thanks for the info...I know this is a difficult question to answer but what is better in terms of just production? The SP-404/555/606? Also could anyone clarify the timeline of these machines....e.g. When they were released....Thanks again,

Technically, you can pitch samples with the 606 - you just have to plug it into P606. Since P606 needs to be plugged into the 606 to actually work, it's fair to say that it's part of the sampler - that's what Roland intended it think. You can pitch samples up and down perfectly with P606 - that's how I made the instrument for the battle 12 beat I made.

This whole 'eww, but that's software' crap is just that - P606 comes with the 606 so that it can be used with the 606. I wouldn't even consider the 606 as a sampler if I wasn't going to access ALL of its features! :lol:

P.S. 606 Man, you seem to know what youre talking about, can you tell me why you like the 606 so much? Are the effects good on the 606? As good as the 404 because I heard thats very good.

The three things I love most about the 606 are:

1 - The sequencer - easy to use and has a great feel
2 - The effects; there's an awesome set of effects, and with three engines you can do most things you need to
3 - Computer Integration - digital recording etc are features ONLY this sampler has...

you got a fader which controls how fast the record plays?
push it upwards and the voices get chipmunked ala Kanye

not a technique for pitching one sample to multiple frequencies,
more for grabbing samples off a record at that high pitch
