What  bit rate do you guys prefer to sample with if memory isn't an issue and why?

 44.1 kHz (standard), 22.05 kHz (long), 11.025 kHz (lo-fi)

start with 44 or 22 then add effects - lo fi?

Or start with 11 and dirty it up some more with lo-fi?

Depends on what I'm sampling.
Drums I sample in lo-fi.
Other samples I start standard at 22 and dirty up to my liking with effects, compression, eq.

.. all in mono even though stereo is the standard on the 404 .. maybe use the lo-fi when a track is harsh from over tweeking then repitching with the lofi

my 404 has been broken for a while, but i think when you turn it on, hit the stereo button to mono, and it stays mono your whole session. might not work on the SX, dunno

I almost always use hi-fi as I really dislike the lo-fi sounds I get from the lo-fi settings on all my SP except maybe the 505. Too many resulting frequencies in the upper range that sound bad to my ear. I love lo-fi in general though and will very often use filters, eq, vinyl sim, etc. to dirty and "lo-fi-alize" my samples. I will also have some vintage cassette 4 tracks to run things through and a cool old mono 1/4" recorder as well. Too bad they are all in the repair cue but won't be forever!

I have also been using mono more as of late and saving stereo for things that really shine in stereo. I also like the contrast you get from mono/stereo combos.

I just tested the SX, it does not remember stereo/mono for REC but does remember for resampling.

It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I feel like making some dirty stuff, thus pressing the lo-fi button twice (SP303), sampling mono and all that. And sometimes I could feel like doing some panning, sampling stereo and in hi-fi.

So yeah, it doesn't matter at all. It's all about how YOU wanna sample everything.
