sp-202 questions

i might get the 202 for dirt cheap and already own the 404 but hate the fact i can't play a loop and record a synth on top of it. you know what i mean? but with the 202 you can play a pad on loop and record a synth directly into the 202, correct? also how is the pitch on the 202 since the 404 lacks good pitch.

if the 202 can record directly in with a loop and have good pitch, it seems like a done deal to me!

..and if the 202 can't do this, is there any benefits to getting this machine if i already have the 404?

the pitch is really good. worth it for that alone. I use mine to record synth, guit whatever. I plug into the 202 send the outs to the 404 ins and listen to the loop or pattern on the 404 while recording my noodling on the 202. Mess with the sample a little on the 202 and send it to the 404 to add to the pattern. Like a multitrack. If it's dirt cheep, get it-totally worth it.

so you're saying plug in rca cable to the 202s out to the 404s, and have a synth or whatever plugged into 202 then turn ext. source on the 404 and i can hear whatever im recording into the 202 from my 404? then i can leave the loop on the 404 and add to the loop on the 202, then send that part to the 404 and then resample both pads together? im sorry if that is confusing, i basically want to just leave a loop on the 202 and keep adding ontop of that loop with ease.

Nope,cant do this.

SP-202 all alone wouldn't get you too far, but since you'll only use it in addition, go for it. But be prepared for really long loading/editing/truncating pauses.

Nope. Only the 505 and maybe the 606 have this as a feature. You have to do it manually otherwise. You can adjust pitch of a pad, resample it to new pad, and do that as many times as there are notes you want. I do it all the time on the SX, but the SX is super fast I think that helps anyway.

i just fucked with the pitch for a while

sampled a C and going up with the pitch i got to a D and going down i got to a G sharp
seems like you get 2 semitones + and 4 semitones -

Oh man, I am so glad kel asked and you replied. That is very little pitch shift on the 202, I had no idea!

It got me thinking about my ES-1 and ESX and wondered how much range their pitch knobs had. I went to go pull the ES-1 out of the closet and saw my Eventide TimeFactor delay pedal I bought for guitar. It is such an awesome box but I had taken it off my pedal board as I was not using it much. I have hooked it up and am loving it.
One of the things I really love about it is it's smooth pitch shifting and looping. 3 full octaves of pitch! And it has MIDI as well. The looper is mono but it has some great features. You have 3 full octaves but you can set the loop to be recorded in a way that places the loop at the top of the pitch range so you have 3 down, or you can have the loop in the middle or very bottom and have 2 down/1 up or 3 up.
Also you can sweep through in octaves, octaves and 5ths, dom 7ths, chromatic (in half steps) or smooth which is just like slowing or speeding up a turntable.
It is small and the verbs sound great too. No 202 for me- I had what I needed in my own closet!
