sequencer??

Is the 404 sequencer really as basic as it seems?? I can't seem to find a way to copy a pattern to another pad, only exchange. So as far as I can work out if you want to have 2 patterns that are the same except one with, say, a vocal line you have to manually input all the button presses exactly again on a new pad and then add the vocal line. Useless. Also as the sequencer doesn't have any separate parts you can't mute the parts of a pattern and introduce the vocal line that way. I know that you can't even link patterns into a song. So what is the point of the sequencer except to make one off patterns which is pretty pointless. May as well buy a SP202.

I am correct?

As you will learn by reading this forum there are tricks for everything you have just mentioned including copying a sequence,muteing sounds, and more. This forum has been very helpful in the short time I have been on here. You just gotta look over the posts.

trust me don't give up on the 404 that easily, it's a very powerful beastie once you get your head around its peculiar workflow.

Many thanks for the info - if you know any more decnet tips please let me know. I could do with all the help I can get...

I really like the looping / sampling aspect of the 404 and now hopefully I will get more use out of the sequencer....

Start reading all the posts in the 404 tricks, you will come across loads of interesting info. And make sure to check out the music forum as well this will give you a good idea on what can be obtained with a 'simple' 404 or 303.

404 is ill ! I own, or have owned an MPC2k, Korg ES-1, Sp-303, SP-404, SP-505, Ensoniq EPS, Reaosn, Fruity loops, live.... the 404 definatly ranks high on that list for me.

They are pretty similar actually. I think I like the EPSs a little more. Its got this sorta unique swing it adds that I think is fresh. My EPS is on the fritz right now... but im very much looking foward to using it together with the 404... I think thats gonna be an insane combo.
