Weekly track submission and beat critiques

Post by formal »

I had this idea for a while now, but it's kinda geared for the people that don't post their music or need motivation to keep going. I was thinking that every week we submit one beat/track where we can use any gear, sample material/sources, methods etc etc and we post em up for a critique. The only rules for the submission is that you need to explain what gear you used, a bit of your workflow process and most importantly what you think the best aspect of your composition was (or areas that were particularly difficult). There will be no judging here, just motivation, guidance and hopefully some inspiration to keep the creative process up. In return please provide feedback/critique on one other track (the goal is that everybody who submits something has at least one feedback/comment too). Share tracks that you are most proud of or ones that gave you some difficulty: everything is welcome.

Any ideas?

P.S. not trying to take away from the battle arena section ;)

P.S.S not SP biased. This is purely for creative output.

sounds like a good idea, a cool idea would be to keep the tracks under 2 mb to be able to upload them to the site, to reduce 3rd party reliance, but just an idea, and i will participate, regardless. when does it start ?

I like this.
It's good to hear what others are up to creative-wise. What they got freshly brewed.
It motivates me to push even more when I hear something fresh from someone.

I think this would be a nice addition along with the battles. I've had some flips/songs come out of the battle rules/samples, but never ended up feeling like putting them into a battle. I would like to be able to focus on one production aspect and have feedback on that with less constraints on samples and instruments.

Is this starting this weekend? :D

I can't decide whether I think the songs should have a time constraint for that week or any song from whenever is acceptable. Having it be fresh in your mind would help feedback and your ability to change what you want afterwards.

I've seen other methods where if you post a song, you have to give two pieces of feedback, that could be a decent way to make sure it's not too dry one sided stuff.
