akai s20 beat showing pitch with midi keyboard

Post by L.C.W »

i thought id upload this beat i made using this function as i haven't heard any examples of it on youtube or anything,

this drums where made with the 404sx and almost all the samples where from different tracks through out the record,
for the main sound i sampled just one note with a little sound left at the end. i looped it and added a little release to it.

after hooking up a midi keyboard to the s20 you can play the selected sample on the keys with a few octaves, because the sample speeds up the higher up the key it loops each note at different times giving it a nice wobble almost appegiator like sound to it. this feature alone makes it a worthy purchase and the whole process takes seconds to do.

the beat isnt yet finished and i already have verses recorded to it were just waiting on the singer to work some magic for the hook, ill post an updated verison when its done, if anyones interested.

let me know if this link doesnt work:

Ya that is way cool that you don't have to do anything but use an external keyboard. i can do that with my RS7000 but that is way more expensive and bulky. I just got a 505 today and hope to sort out a similar feature there.
Thanks for the example- nice track and progression and layers.
Also did you use sidechained compression? I hear so many tracks with compression ducking going on but I have never tried it myself.

Yep used sidechain compression on the track, i use a simple vst called side kick, i put the vst on the kick track and then make a seprate group/buss channel and put another one on that and then feed the tracks i want to duck to it, then leave certain sounds not ducking for emphasis.
Thats cool you can do that on the rs7000 i used want one when i used the rm1x back in the day, i ended up gettin the korg es1 to go with it for sampling that was my first sampler. Hopefully the 505 works out well
