Dusk and a Voice Singing LP

Post by Chopperman »

About 4 years ago I found a Tony Scott record called Music for Zen Meditation, and I liked it so much I used it for an album called Zenstrumentals. About a year later I decided to look for some vocal samples to add to it. I skated over to the record shop and the only album in the "spoken word" section was Dusk and a Voice Singing by Kodaya, a great poet. His words fit the zenstrumentals very well, and mixing this was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life.

Yo, people don't seem to be very into this. :lol: I'm not surprised or disappointed, I know its not for everyone, and I understand that it gets kind of monotonous since the same instruments and voice are sampled throughout. I think its a good one to put on after a rough day though, and I think it could be played as a lullaby. :lol: Anyways, the point I'm getting to is that I might take it off bandcamp after a few weeks so if you want it, you should download it soon.

Grabbed it and listened to it in full. It is something good for background/while you work type thing too.

I really enjoyed it- esp the one about the Native Am trail and such. Ya the voice can be a bit much to digest and is pretty deep/dense at times but you def have a piece of work to be proud of here! Thanks!

Also- if you don't already have it let me know- but Jan Akkerman and Tony Scott album "Meditation" is stellar.

I had the cassette from library- 3 years later found it in CD bin at Virgin Megastore for $5, bought 2 and finally returned the tape and a cd back to library- :)

Oh wow, missed this hard. Great idea Chop! Works nice too, the samples you used to make those backing are great- it gives the album a whole, unified vibe like it's a properly produced album. Plus there's some really creepy tones in there (ie- those flutes), puts a kinda different spin on his words.

*Cool that you've got 2 COMPLETELY different tracks with the same name, that made me :lol:

Thanks guys! :D

@Om, I haven't heard that album. Here's the one I used- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_Zen_Meditation
I just learned that its "considered to be the first New Age record."

@Unfolding, about the 2 tracks with the same title, the first Birthday Polka track is an introduction to the second.

Oh yeah, of course! duh.
You made it extra clear by capitalizing "completely" and still my goofy brain was stuck on this album.
