Moving! Packing trouble. Need words advice

Post by MattCoops »

I am forced to move out my place by the first. I was in hospital for 2 weeks and now that I'm out I got to find new place.
Came home to all my shit in boxes that my girlfriend packed for me.
My friggin' records went from a shelving system to all being thrown in a huge tote that is too heavy to be lugged anyhow.
So I'm pulling all the records out and organizing into what are essential to keep, what can I let go, and what can I get money for. All the meanwhile making sure none got broken while getting thrown into storage.
Just venting.
Anyone have similar situation? Any words of advice?

Sorry to hear that man... but it's good that you have some sort of storage unit to keep your stuff safe while you find a new place...

Yeah. She was good at getting everything I have put away.
But the room is so bare. And now i'm pulling out all the records and putting things back. packing my records is up is something I HAVE TO DO.

Sorry to read that you were in the hospital for so long, hope you feel better now. I have a record horror story that happened when i moved back in 2004: I was taking out lps and boxing em up for the move when the shelf, which was a 4 x 2 about my size and too top heavy, fell on me. as i was being knocked down, i saw lps whizzing by my head on both sides, while others hit me in the face. i didn't get hurt but there were lps everywhere, all damaged. older ones split right through the sleeve and were then stepped on by wifey when she came to get the shelf off of me.

the point of that story is this: bolt your shelf to the wall! also damaged in that move was my stereo reciever, and ever since i wrap all that shit twice in goodwill comforters when moving.

good luck man

sorry for the double post! more advice, though: take the lps out of the sleeves to prevent seam splits if they're gonna be jostled around at all. and make sure you have your beer and pizza (or whatever combination of comfort items you require) ready for the moment you finish unloading the truck. relax a bit before you start putting everything where it's gonna go.

Keep ya head up bruh.

Put that shit in storage, try to make a system, so you can acces that shit easier and faster when you need it.

I got 4 heavy duty tote boxes. I'm in the midst of organizing and packing up. I feel like John Cusak in that movie High Fidelity.

For moving big amounts of vinyl paperbags work very well. Get a big
stack of paperbags and you can fit what 30 - 40 in each. Carry two of
them at a time of coz. And get your friends to help - promise them beer
and such :)

If you're lost and alone
Or you're sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Carry on, carry on

:D STay positive!

in the pbs doc on the rockefellers, mrs. rockefeller wrote about being so happy the day her children told her what they wanted for christmas so that she could deny them their requests. the rockefellers instilled a strict material frugality in their children.
i thought about this as i passed on a sp-202 yesterday at guitar center for $150 with some weird retro knobs

Everything with the move went good. My chick got me some hardcore totes that were great lugging utensils.
Was glad to have built in shelf closet at the new place. And girlfriend generously offered the real estate to house my modest vinyl collection. Lucky for my records!
