that wheel on mpc can be a hassle i admit, but like u said the mpc has it's advantages. good luck on that asr x i heard sequencing on that think is shit,but the advantage of that machine it gets a nice warm gritty sound out of it. software/hardware all has it's pros and cons.

The great thing about the MPC is that you can navigate around your sequences and punch in/out. If the 404 could do that I would probably use the sequencer...

the jog wheel ain't too bad once you're in the zone. it's pretty useful for chopping/scrubbing chops, samples, and stuff

you should get an MV-8000 or whatever...you can use it with a mouse & LCD Screen...just like a Computer... and still have that analog warm feel...and an SP all in one

I feel ya on this one. I really wanted to love my mpc's (1000, 2000, 2000xl, 60II) but if I were forced to sell any of my gear the mpc would be the first to go. Sp def takes the cake, fuck 8 outs haha!

Although I have recently paired my mpc60 with my asr10 and have had the best time. It's sequencer is the shit. Loose and all.

Btw I really want a mpc 3000 but I'm afraid I won't like it....?

had the 2000xl and still have the 1k with jj2xl. i really love the machine. wont sell it at any price. chopping is pretty fast for me tho?

yo, i had the asrx black, mpc 1000, mpc 2500 and 606,

the things I think are similar with the 606 and MPC, are :
wave editor screen, drum roll, and pad layout. nothing much in common
besides that, the 606 still cant replace the MPC unless you have a st
224 or something to pitch your samples, then youll have a neat sound,
but thats it for pitching. on the MPC, you can always pitch your samples
and then speed up or slow down your beat, I dont know how to use the
time stretch on the 606 yet, so i dont know how it sounds.

the asr x has a good sound, sampling from records, i never bothered
saving any project, I spent years looking for a SCSI cable, running
around like a chikcen with it's head cut off to computer stores and ebay
buying wrong cables and getting horrible advice how to make my SCSI drive work,
so i gave up, I bet the st 224 and 606 would sound alot like an asr x.
a major bummer on the ASR is the bugged out wheels, break down and
glitch around, but if you like glitches in your music it's cool.

people never beleive me, when I talk like this, but the MPC 2500
sound engine is really good and clear, rich and thick and warm.
where as the MPC 1000 sounds cheap in comparison, like the kicks
distort when they shouldnt, and has an overall bad mp3 sound to it,
sort of what I noticed when I first got the 404, a cheap sound.
Then i just got used to it. I still think the 1000 is mostly a peice of
garbage, and if you want that good sound get an asr, or st 224.
if you really want the mpc , get a 2000 with cf slot, or 2500.

anyway, i couldnt be happier, I can pitch anything with my st 224, and
get that crazy sound then make it more bangin and awesome in the 606.

kang, i rocked that combo, didn't like the 606 though. i liked the other ones i tried, 505 and 303 better, because the chopping on 606 was abysmally slow for me. (guess i coulda chopped on the 224 though) right now i got a 224 and no sp. gonna get a 404 in a couple weeks.

there's a cat named Praise...who is so raw on the ASR-X pro....the sounds that come out of that box is amazing...they have ASR X pros in almost every music pawnshop in Seattle

+1 on the ASR-X bullshit encoders. My friend bought one new back in the day and that shit was fucked right out of the box. After a week of trying to 'live with it', he sent it back and got a refund.

However, I'm a fan of the TS-12 and from what I saw of the ASR, it operates a lot like the TS-12, which has the best sequencer I've ever had the pleasure of playing around with on hardware. Also, the ASR/TS effects section is super badass and was one of the first that featured bus routing on a workstation.

TS-12, I miss yooooooooo....

Don't go shopping for a TS-12 unless you want to get a ginormous keyboard and have to convert samples on a computer for it since it doesn't natively sample, though, before you get thoughts in your head...
