Not a battle. .but anyone interested?

Post by cartesia »

Alot of the time, I draw my inspiration for music from visual experiences...

So I was thinking of putting together a somewhat-battle. . separate to the ones in 'The Arena', that basically involved someone going out, finding a cool place in their city.. maybe an abandoned industrial site, etc etc, taking a nice/inspirational/characterful picture of it, sampling stuff that is around that area that fits with the picture, building a small sample pack of it, and uploading it for people to use to make a track.

I dunno. . is that a lame idea? haha.. i like to do that sort of stuff (usually just take my SP to said location and work on something there) ...but I tend to be strange.
:P

Would anyone be interested in this kind of 'soundscape' competition/challenge?

Maybe not even have a sample limit at all, just have people write a track that fits the image.

brilliant idea

i'm down for sure

i reckon you should start us off man, get a pack together (wavs/jpgs/descriptions) and post it here.

i really like how sound and geography interact...this seems like a really cool way of exploring that more

I'd be down but I don't have a way to record outdoors.

Neat idea, sounds a bit like that producer battle stuff that's on YouTube that's called 'The Weakest Beat': http://uk.youtube.com/user/theweakestbeat

Pretty cool actually, battlers get a picture and have to make a beat to it that captures the feel or mood of the picture the best and have 2 hours or so to do it.

Off course these time limits probably won't quite work here I think because of different time-zones, but we could definitely do the 'translate-picture-to-beat' thing.

I can't record outdoors either by the way.

303's aren't battery powered.

i like the idea...

anyone use the 404 with a decent mic as a field recorder? the internal one is def anemic and i'm wondering if 404+sm57 would work or if you'd need a preamp for decency...

that would work for sure, but I don't fink you should be aiming for an accurate representation of what yr trying to record (like, crystal clear, un-coloured). i find the best results often involve yr set up above, running thru an effect or two.

didn't know 303s were not batt op. crazy! the 202 and 404 are....strange.

Yeah, IG9 knows what I'm talkin' 'bout. We should do that for the mixtape we're doing right now.
