To make it, they decided to experiment and produce the material in a unique way - completely free of sequences/midi programming/tempos inc/quantizing/etc. To put it another way, they "played" their samplers and instruments free hand. Extended jams were tracked, then pruned down, embellished, and generally pored over.
As a result, the record is inherently loose rhythmically, juxtaposed with carefully tweaked tones and production techniques. The DIY philosophy was carried right through the project, with Monster Monster on mastering duties, and Saint Surly designing and hand screen printing each and every cover (http://youtu.be/EZ6j3Truwwg).
