This might work on the 555 too, so check it out 555 users just in case..

When using the 606 as a soundcard, you can record anything playing from the 606 directly into your audio editor through the USB cable. This is pretty spesh, as it means that you have a 100% digital recording path, ie : -inf DB noise floor!!!

Of course the digital connections can achieve the same thing - but you need digital connections on the computer to do it, meaning more cash.

Method

Step 1: Setup the 606 as the soundcard for your comp.

Step 2: go to [menu] and go to [USB audio/midi]

Step 3: change the source from 'input' to 'mix' (this transmits audio down the USB cable).

Step 4: set up your audio editor to record (I use Soundforge, but even Audacity would do).

Step 5: hit record, and start playing! You can bash pads live, play sequences, use FX, the filter, whatever and everything will be captured perfectly, with absolutely no noise whatsoever, none at all!!!!

Step 6: edit loop points and save! import back to the 606 for live stuff and extra processing. Repeat ad infinitum - with no noise you can resample forever!!!! mwahahahahaha

This is particularly cool with Recycle!, as you can play drums live, by feel (no quantise) and use Recycle to make them fit the tempo of your track - extra coolness 8) 8)

That's similar to what I do with my 303, but I can't record through usb. Shit man I want the the 505, 555, and 606. It's seems like the 606 can be had fairly cheap these days so maybe I'll look into it since I just got my W-2 so I can get my taxes back from the government. By the way the is no law in the United States the says a private citizen has to pay taxes on their labor, only for profit corporations can be taxed legally by the government, just look into it online it's very well documented. It's also interesting to note that all our money is produced by the federal reserve bank, which is a privately owned for profit bank instituted by five principal banks in England. The only reason we don't use silver as a currency and everything is was backed by the gold standard is because gold is one of the rarest metals on earth and there for very easy to control.

The truly special thing is the digital signal path to record through. With analog connections, no matter how good they are, there's always a 'noise floor' - usually -98db or suchlike (for a good connection). Digital means -inf db; or NO NOISE at all; pretty damn good, especially for resampling :D

Yeah I'd like to mess with something like that but for my hip hop I like the analog signal noise. I've even started to experiment with digital distortion and noise.

It should say how to do it in the manual since the 606 comes with recording software from cakewalk. I'm sure you just have to connect a usb cable from the back of the 606 into the back of the computer, then open up the software and arm a track to record. There is probably going to be some function on the 606 that activates its ability to transmit it's audio signal through the usb cable.

Dr Sample is right; the drivers disk comes with the hardware. plug n play it is NOT, though, so you need to follow the instructions in the manual carefully!

That's why I don't record on a pc, fuck drivers. I hate spending time doing silly stuff that should be automated.

On a Windows PC you will have to go to the 'configuration screen' and to 'audio and devices' (or something like that) and there you will need to select a device (double click 'devices' a small icon in the center of the screen) and you will be able to select your SP-606 in the screen that pops up.

@606man: So by setting the SP606 to mix you are able to output audio to your PC, right? Mmm, I'm currently using it the other way around without mix to sample YouTube songs or Windows Media Player music.

Yeah man - it's pretty damn cool - digital recording with no digital connections on the PC!

You can even, if you are using software that allows recording and playback at the same time, feed stuff through and record that way - no feedback loops with digital it seems!!

Nice! :D

"If your software permits playback and recording at the same time" , yeah, that's a good one. :)

Unfortunately it seems all software I own do not allow that. I mean, it does allow it, but there's all sort of funky not funny errors coming up... at one point one of the programs even crashed my SP-606 for some reason (I think it was because of memory overflow).

Which program do you use when doing that? Or do you use that at all?

Audacity does that very nicely in the beta version, but since it's a beta it tends to crash too. I just save all the time in case this happens. I haven't used Reaper too much but I'm sure it will do this easily and it's free. If you have acid pro you can also do this.
