Mixing down in the SP

I make most of my music within a DAW (FL). I want to utilize the sound of my SP to finish off my beats. Is it a good idea to run a beat through the SP once it's as good as done? And what would be a good way to approach this? I want my beats to sound more cohesive and thick. Perhaps some compressor, vinyl sim over the master track...?

I have this idea that running my music through something analog such as the SP will give it something extra.

If you got a big enough smartmedia card like 32MB or 64MB, then yeah, you can sample in a whole song and add effects as its sampling or after sampling. Best to sample it in without effects so you can experiment later. Either way, it does it.

Yeah I used to flip samplers into multi-recording devices. My most used technique was making a 4 or 5 track sequence on the MPC 500 and record each track on to a pad of the 303 at different sample modes. Track 1 would have the drums, but they were too clean on the 500 so I sampled it to pad 1 of the 303 on LoFi. Track 2 would have a bassless sample and I sample that at Standard to pad 2 and so on. Its all preference really. Then BAM, I turned the 303 into a medicine multitrack machine. The 8 polyphony was 8 tracks to me now and I would layer them all together like it was on the 500 but now things sound more freakier with the different sample modes and effects.

yo ill, thats filthy, did you find your beats matched up well when recording from the mpc to the sp? no timing differences or anything like that?

would you just go into songmode on the mp and record the whole shit in with each part solo'ed. then on the sp, trigger each sound at the same time, so you could hear your whole beat the way it sounded in the mpc? how would you make sure everything was the same as it was on the mp?

i suppose on the 404sx or 555 you could do something like this, and save each separate sequence or pattern (i guess their called on the sp isnt it?) as a full .wav file, then just drag that shit into your DAW afterwards and mix from there.

does the SP's write patterns to .wav's like this?

Hey Damien, yeah, I solo'd each track one at a time. Did some trimming since I sampled it by ear, but everything did came on time as long as you input the BPM from the 500 into the 303. Sometimes I didn't even have to record the whole track because it contained a looping sample, and of course, I could do that on the 303 when I put it all together in a 99 bar pattern. Its great for drums and when you chop up stuff and create a melody that takes 5 or 6 chops. Goodbye Rabbit on Symphony Sounds 2 is the method at work. That whole piano melody was created with like 8 to 9 different chops of a 12 second sample and it doesn't even sound like how I flipped it. The drums were two layers of 3 chops, kinda simple. I highly recommend getting ahold of a friend's 404 or something after you bounce your track to the 303. Once you resample the track on the 303 to a pad on the 404, you can export that whole sound file to the memory card and put that wav file on your computer

Ya that's a good idea, but you'll still be exporting the pad off the 404 (all be it resample free). 303 doesn't have an export function

you can export files from the 303, but not in .wav format; it's a sort of boss/roland format wich isn't convertible in .wav format unfortunately; but you can save sample out of the machine with that, at least.

those are files in a boss format wich are only readable by the 303 or the 505
