Song Mode?

I dont understand the book. Can someone explain it?

Do I have to split up each patteren in it own patteren sequence?

I haven't used song mode, soz :oops:

You can play live using pattern mode, and track patterns into a DAW for sequencing, so I don't see the need for song mode, personally.

I don't use song mode either, but it's not that difficult.

Basically what Song mode does is it enables you to put different patterns behind eachother and by doing that you can make full songs. So ideally you'd make an intro pattern, a few looping patterns for the main part of the song and a pattern for the outro part of your song and stitch them all together using the song mode recording features. It generally works okey although it takes quite some time to do properly. It's obviously a feature that's there so you can make songs even without a PC and for that it's pretty good, but I prefer to record live as well.

As for actually using the Song Recording mode, it's very important that you follow page 63 of the manual down to the exact words, otherwise it won't quite work and you won't get what it does.

Yeah, basically it comes down to that, but I use Rifftworks, a program that I would normally use for guitar recording and song creation in a whole different kind of music-style. Recording through my Line6 POD XT LIVE (a floor board for guitar-effects, amps and so on, that is also an) audio interface works great.

So the mpc is the better sampler then?

It's a better sequencer, although not as good as a computer DAW. Definitely not better a sampler - you can't flip samples with the MP like the SP :lol:

But i bought the sampler to get away from the computer. Now everyone is telling me to use the computer

Use what you comfortable with, there are tons of ways to record without a computer. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to able to make something dope with an mpc 500, numark pt-01 and a tape recorder.

Did you check Roland's website before you purchased? Notice how in all the pictures there's a laptop connected to the 606? :lol:

The 606 was designedto integrate with your computer - that's it's real strength that it beats other samplers with :shock:

Having a -inf DB recording connection without having to but a digital soundcard is priceless imo.

Damn man, any other SP would be better for you - the 555 or 404 or 303 all have no screen and are the go for old-school sequencing.

btw - Check MPC forums and you'll see that 90% of MPC users track out to computer anyway :lol:

ok. maybe i am wordin this wrong. i wanna sequence my beat with the sp but i want to bounce the whole beat to my laptop.

That's simple too, what kind of computer do you have?
I assume you have a pc from the software you've listed so I'd say just do a google search for a free program called "Reaper" it should be all you need other than a RCA to 1/8th inch Line In cable. Let me know if you run into a problem.

I just made a thread about 'bouncing' audio to the comp - give it a try; you might like using the 606 yet
