EQ vs Isolator

i'm wondering which you guys use for what, which you prefer etc. just a general discussion of these fx.

Most of the time I'm using Isolator and mostly as a filter (Low pass, high pass etc).. Using it all the time so I actually forgot about the EQ. Must try and use the EQ more often soon.

I was thinking of starting this same thread, but mostly because I'm embarassed to say I can't tell much of a difference between the two. I guess I use isolator more 'cause it's there as a dedicated button!

Pretty much spot on.

You don't generally want to boost with the isolator as it generally muddies sound based on it's parametrics. However, to be sure you get the sound you want when boosting, it's recommended to try direct comparison of both effects.

What yo-yo crunch said. On a side note I started using mfx14 for a low pass filter. I think it works better than the filter button.

I use isolater for dropping out the sound, eq for anything that needs cut or boost, and canceller for low-pass.

you're right about the mfx14, i use that aswell.

isolator for quick freQ drop and EQ for precise shit and boost.

I hadn't thought about it this much and usually default to isolator because it's easier to access than switching my mfx effect to EQ. It's good to know the different times they work best.

What SP's mfx14 are you using? My 303's 14 is lofi but my 404sx's 14 is bit crash.

404sx is bit crush but you can "disable it" by turning crtl1 and 2 to the left i think. ctrl 3 becomes a filter.

Mfx14 on the 303 is lo-fi. Just use knob 3 as the filter.

I use the isolator when I'm making a beat, to cut frequencies and make samples work together

use isolator on drums sometimes .. not often like .. more range for crunching up the sounds

use eq to remove harsh shit on a final beat to smooth it out .. especially when peaking through resampling alot
