I listen to my own shit more than other peeps. When I feel I'm somewhat cornered in creativity, I'll listen to anything but my own shit.

I think part of being creative is listening to your own faults and recognizing them in terms of your own goal for sound...if that makes sense.

Think of each song as a drawing, story, or poem. You create your first one, and it's nothing that's going to change the world or anything, but it came from nothing, and you put pencil to paper, and drew or came up with the words and then it was there. From your mind. And then you ask yourself, "Can I make something even better than this?". Repeat the process, and down the road, you should see alot of growth, you write better poems/stories, or your drawings become more and more lifelike. It's really no different when it comes to creating any beat, song, or whatever. If you're new to doing it, it's going to be a long road to get to the point where you're ready to share to the world what it is you created, without feeling that it's going to embarass you to the whole world (If the beat isn't any good, or you made it sound like crud). But sometimes, you really need to ask "Is this any good? If not, what could I do to get better?". And that's probably why alot of you are sharing your creations, so that in the end, we get better at what we do. So, it is probably likely you'd want to listen to your own beats, to see what mistakes you made, or to see if there was something you could have made better. But it just takes practice, and you can spend very little, or thousands of dollars on gear/equipment/software, but there's no machine that just sits there and creates a tune for you that makes you a millionaire. You've got to work hard, dig deep, and fine tune your beat, song, track, whatever. It will either come out how you want it to, or you'll need to keep working at it.

I don't listen too much to my own tracks except for when I just finished something. I bump it for maybe an hour or something and then let it be. With exception of collaborating. I really enjoy the tracks way more and often when someone adds the finishing touches to it. For example Chopper (my first and only collaboration so far) doing a verse and making the track complete. That really gives me more satisfaction just by hearing the end result.

That's actually pretty clever. I'm gonna keep that in the back of my head.

When I make beats, my main goal is to make something I would wanna listen to, so I bump my shit all the time. It gets old sometimes so I need to take a break every once and a while and strictly listen to other people's music.

:D It's an incredible blessing to work with you and everyone else on the album. Before asking for beats my only collabs were with a couple friends rhyming on my beats. Now that I've been rhyming on others' beats I realize collabbing is the way for me. It leaves my beats open for others and makes me less critical when I listen, and I enjoy the songs more. Also every time I receive some dope beats that I'm welcome to use, its like my birthday, and the presents are PRICELESS! That's how I felt when I got beats from riPaddo. I can't wait to share the song! I'm planning on posting it Sunday, because its about relaxing and enjoying your day off.

Oi Lazer, do you ever feel guilty listening to your own stuff? There's nothing wrong with playing your own music all the time when you're honest about it.

Not listening to your own music's like a chef that doesn't taste their own food. How do you know anyone else will like it if you don't pay it the right attention?

I'm my worst critic so I hardly listen to my own stuff when it's finished. Although, I do like listening when I'm around other people or when I'm planning my live set.

I make like 4 or 5 albums a year and listen to them right away, then beat myself up for ever over some glitch or pop in it, but its always the best coming back after a few months, smoking some and enjoying your master works.

Haha yeah man, Maybe a little too much. But i make my music for myself. I dont make it to " sell " or "release" it. Its my own work and i admire it as such. And like others have said. You make music YOU would like to listen too. Thats what makes music so magical. NO two minds are the same.
