Arist to sample from?

I am new to sampling. What are some good artist to sample from? Does anyone have any ideas?

uuhhmm..

well, the forum battles consist of prechosen samples that you would just import directly into your spX0X and all chopping and what have you must be done in that machine. so you would do whatever you want but only from an sp.

sample anything, i like movies so...

Yeah I got the 606 and every time i go to chop something on the dam thing i get 15 little peaces and i long pease. I cant figure that part out yet.

To be honest, the sky is the limit as far as what you want to sample. If you think you can make a bumping track from some country records, then get to it cowboy! If you're more into funk/jazz, then you could find a plethora of grooves and breaks if you know what you like to sample.

But most producers who beat dig just sort of round it down to artist, producer, genre, label, etc. But sometimes they just flip through and stumble on some random records, and find something that they just have to sample, that they might not have discovered otherwise. It might depend on your budget, but vinyl can be cheap if you know where to look. Always check garage sales, thrift stores, dollar bins at your local music shop, and you can sample anything that tickles your fancy. Chop, loop, compress, filter, the samples to your liking, and have fun.

just a tip for chopping...

find a drum break...

use the clip board feature (hold the pad the sample is on and hit this button)
and it'll copy the break the pad you choose... this will eliminate you having to sample long passages everytime and it makes chopping faster when you do sample long joints.

auto chop can be tricky.

this takes practice.

learn how to resample... it can be your best friend when making sounds...
