google audacity, it's free and does the job. if you're spending money i'd get the zoom sampletrak.

Recycle.

It's whole purpose is sample editing with great speed & pitch adjustment. It sounds better than Audacity's pitch & speed shift too. Only downside is it's not free, but it's worth every cent.

audacity is actually working quite well, its very smooth, is it just me or does the 404 kinda have shit pitch and speed? especially when you slow it down, goddamn it sounds choppy

you can adjust the sample rate in the cool edit and Import that into your 404. speed pitch style. 44100 kHz to 48000 kHz is around 1 note up on 16 levels or so.

the audacity one is real cool, sometimes its cool to make a beat real slow then speed it up to normal, it handles all the lofi stuff and makes it kinda squeaky.

im working on a python script that utilizes the sound touch audio engine library. it will let you load a sound, and then dump 12 pitched samples to your memory card. most of the work is going into the GTK user interface.
I might try and integrate real time pitching, so you can sample right from the program.

---edit

just came up with an unconventional idea; use the above mentioned script to dump the pitched samples to a temp folder. then just call them in real time.

might be able to use just GTK and webkit for this.

or maybe plain HTML and javascript for the real time triggering via midi, typing keyboard or mouse clicks on the virtual pads. .
