When I import a sound into my sp. why do i have ta hit the pad hard? there just not like the stock sounds.

when you record a sample in, you gotta ensure it has maximum gain (without clipping). if the signal is low, or produces hiss when it's turned up, try applying the compressor to maximise the sound.

if it's a sample you've put onto a CF card, rather than recorded in, then you should open the .wav in Cool Edit (or similar wave editor) and Normalise the sample. then drag back onto the CF card

is there a way to turn off the velocity?

I got it now. had to do some reading in the manual.

The manual is very good, although not that easy to follow - make sure you read it all twice!!
