Wu tang tribute or just copycats?
recently i ve seen a song of ASAP ( ASAP ROCKY, ASAP FERG ... bla bla )
where they have merch clothing with their emblems and some 90s tommy hilfiger and so on, plus harlem atmosphere...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... RMCtlEDaJw
Guys, what do you think about it?
They think they ar new legends...
Danny Brown said that he is new Ol' Dirty Bastard, Kanye West thinks he is a God and Michael Jackson...

asap rocky and asap mob are dope, probably best thing going in the mainstream right now. spaceghostpurp too on a similar vibe.
i can't take anything danny brown says seriously, copying rihannas haircut like that. dude looks like a ******.

Re: Wu tang tribute or just copycats?
Spaceghostpurrp and RaiderKlan influenced asap heavily. Rocky is just more accessible to the public. Listen to other artists in raiderklan like Nell or Denzel Curry.
Danny Brown doesnt give a f... and he never said that ODB comment himself. Other people have made the comparison
Black Hippy - Ab-soul, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock are all good in their own lane.
If you dont like kendrick..give the others a try. They have something for everyone.

asap or aseop rocky or whatever the fuck is pretty damn lame and all you cats that respect what you do know this shit, just 'cause people buy it doesn't mean you hit on anything special. Let's all get excited because horribly unintelligent L.C.D. type people like our music and pay us to entrance even more of the creative youth. I can dig on some space ghost purp beats, but again not much talent in my estimation. Who the fuck uses a football team from another town as an identity and the whole raider klan hieroglyphic shit looks like somebody drunk texting. WTF! I guess I don;t smoke enough dmt laced bath salts through cough syrup bongs to get on they level

I think Kendrick is pretty cool. Good ear for beats, clearly passionate about his writing... He's hit or miss for me as far as his entire catalog goes but he's doing his own thing

I agree with you saying he has a good ear for beats, and i even think he can write well but i really dont feel like his subject matter is worthwhile at all.. i mean a lot of rapping is boasting and bragging but i feel like hes wasting some talent when he could be educating the youth or some shit or using his rapping for a higher purpose... idk..... who am i to talk i like gucci maneIIIII wrote:I think Kendrick is pretty cool. Re: Wu tang tribute or just copycats?
Honestly I could care less if he was "educating" anyone. He ain't a teacher, he's a rapper, a storyteller. I don't go looking for a message and don't want one. Music doesn't need preachers, it needs creative, real people. I hate when people rag on someone cus they ain't sending a message. Why does music need a message? His life, his experience, his output.
Re: Wu tang tribute or just copycats?
Dont think hes GOAT material (I hate that term anyway) but Kendrick got skills. Im not feeling Section.80 but GKMC is the shit. He reminds me of Kanye back in the day, how he appealed to underground and mainstream crowds. Kanye would work with Slum Village or Ludacris. Kendrick has songs with Kweli and with ASAP. I think its a good thing for hip hop for him to be on the radio. I think its dope that he doesn't praise the life he raps about but doesn't act holier than thou on any of his tracks.
Re: Wu tang tribute or just copycats?
I like some of the beats on the ASAP rocky album. Since the Tyler Goblin album I've felt a little out of the loop with the genre, and it has taken some getting used to... but things change. At least I think we are finally getting past the autotune/techno-ey bullshit. When I first listened to Odd Future I thought I was in the twilight zone. I didn't understand why it was popular, and the bass was clipping (!). I appreciate some of it, especially the beats on MellowHype's 'numbers' and I dig Domo Genesis' flow. I don't consider anybody to be the "new" anybody else... Odd Future gets compared to Wu because they have a lot of members. I grew up on Native Tongue and Rap-a-Lot in the early 90s so I have a different idea about some of this newe stuff I guess... One thing is for sure though-- The older artists need to stop!! Public Enemy was my FAVORITE group when I was a kid, but I haven't bothered to listen to their last ten thousand albums. They just need to stop trying to sound new, rehashing all the gimmicks from old songs and all that. If Public Enemy had disbanded in '94 Their catalog would be legendary as a whole.
LL Cool J, you need to stop too! It's like these old goats are dying to sound fresh and it's just not working. If you are an icon on the east coast, don't put 808 rolls and 96th triplets on your hi hats on your new material.
I think some people are blinded by the artist's status. Rakim could sing autotune and they'd be like, "The legend is back!!!" I wonder if Rakim ever gets tired of people sucking his dick...
anyway

^when you say PE should have disbanded in 94 are you saying before or after muse-n-hour or whatever it's called? that album is dope IMO.

Did you know that there is a hidden track on "mu-sick" if you rewind past the beginning of the cd? weird.
