Isn't it ironic?

Post by Chopperman »

Just thinking about the juxtaposition of these kitchen ads. As much as I loathe these pieces of shit, I must say they do make my SP fam look better by comparison. We humbly post free music to learn and inspire. They shamelessly advertise stupid bullshit to make a buck. They lost. We won. 8)

I still wonder how this tactic of advertisement works on anyone at all. Like...especially for something as large as a kitchen. I can imagine MAYBE someone might see a spam and go, "Yeah, you know what, I kinda DO need a new TV...maybe I'll look at this later." But kitchens. And repeated spam of kitchen BS. Seriously, man...if they even paid attention to where site traffic is coming from, I'm sure they'd see 0% of even TRAFFIC to their sales sites coming here. Yet every day, there they are.

I gotta say...

it's so fucking random and it kinda makes me laugh but it's annoying as hell at the same time so i'm a little conflicted.

i just listened to an episode of Radiolab that talks about the way search engines work and explains why there's so many spammers on this specific site.

If you look up, at least in google, SP404, this is the first site that allows user interaction. Therefore, it's the highest 'points' in terms of sway of searches, therefore anything posted here gets extra weight, so if someone advertises their kitchen crap here, it gains extra 'points' so to speak JUST because it's here...so if they stay up, then it's more likely that kitchen buying will show up with these guys spamming here simply because they were on this site.

So there you go.

It's explained much better in this episode of Radiolab...

could it possibly be a disgruntled ex-member of the forum just being a dick?

it makes sense cause the kinda people willing to put that much effort into something so crap are exactly the type of people to get banned from a forum

also even if it could be benefitial to a kitchen company i really cant see anybody intelligent enough to start a business of that nature (and have it still succeeding) will think its a good idea to be the internet equivalent of a 15 year old saying 'yo, check the beats on my channel' on every madlib video

Again, it's not about what we see, it's about manipulating search engines via weighted posts from sites that already have sway power for results in said engines. Us seeing this stuff is a just a side effect of the end result they wish to achieve. I doubt they expect us to buy kitchen crap. They just want their link bumped up in search results in google and other search engines.

so is there some way to trick them into thinking we don't allow user interaction?

Unfortunately, no. I'm pretty sure if bots are involved, it's going to see FORUMS, and then beyond that, there's not a lot of customized forum software and likely they all have a common base, so if they look at the behind the scenes aspect, they can see that indeed, users change the content of this site, therefore they'll target it. :\

Only real way to deter them is to use mild captcha. I'm not a fan of the hidden graphics ones. I prefer simple challenge/response questions. Like questions a bot would understand. Such as "What genre of music does Madlib produce?" It's easy to read and bot would try to retype the sentence, not actually answer it. You can ask simple questions too. However, if someone's hired to post here, they can answer that too and there's no way to keep out human spammers.

for the retards.....they are using this site and its rankings to boost a potential domain name that will be economically valuable to a business in relation to the actual web address. Kinda like sp-forums itself, I assume it was made in the hopes of boosting the traffic here by using idiots they friend multiple myspace/facebook/soundcloud clients while really be a small group of talented producers/creators with an ulterior motive. I guess that this site was made in the hopes of selling the domain name to Roland after a large following was created, but it probably backfired because there are assholes like me around that see through fake shit and hate people that jump on just to be part of a larger face that they can disappear into. To those I say return to your fake ass life of control and let life be heard from the people that live it. You're not smart, you were taught tricks....................and THAT'S THE TRUTH RUTH!
