I usually gravitate towards strings or jazzy piano stuff, but i like the piano stuff to be a lil less bright, big clunky chords and spindly lead lines.

Least favorite instrument: saxophone in 80's R&B/Jazz crossover love ballads. Think late George Benson wearing makeup and a jheri curl on the album cover. Very specific, I know, but it irks me.

Noises and guitar feedback...I tend to pitch them and make melodies out of them.

bass and saxophone, the sp's are very very good for filtering out and resampling basslines so you can make it into your own bass sound. also, nothing (in my opinion) can beat a really laid back sax playing over some hard drums.

Id say synth pads from dnb records are really nice to me.
