memphis rap beats
is it possible to produce pre-crunk, memphis, post-luger beats with a roland or other sampler without 16 step seq ( mostly without comp ) ? with a lot of hihat rolls and snare rolls, if yes demonstrate some examples.

sp-606 has note repeat, sounds like you want that. really it can be done with any sampler though, roland or otherwise
Re: memphis rap beats
the question is do you want to this the easy way, or the crazy way?
Re: memphis rap beats
i think you can do it on sp's without note repeat like 404 or 303, by looping samples resampled with some silence at the end for fine setting the gap for looping (timing eg. triplet notes or smth) and if you have several pads with different mark settings and looping set to ON, but same sample on each of them, you can do some crazy rolls very fast and easy. its even more fun cause you can switch in fly between "note repeats settings" way faster than on traditional note repeat feature.

delay with 75% feedback, with the tap tempo on the bpm you wanna use. play with ctrl 1 for the repeat.

I'm loving the Memphis sound right now. I stumbled upon Tommy wright iii this year doing a search for beats produced with DR-5 lol. I guess he produced Manson family with only a DR-5 according to a forum post I saw someplace.
Personally I love his 90's stuff : 10 wanted men and runnin-n-gunnin are amazing.. sounds like 808 and sp12..on a 4track. So good... does anyone know what Tommy was using during those early (93-98) years ?
