chopping; edit/remove slices ??

I see this is possible from watching olby tips 'n' tricks pt 2 at 7 minutes in he does an auto chop and then goes into the chop pad bank and removes a few samples and all the samples ahead of the ones he removed are automatically arranged so that there are no empty spaces..

it's hard to see how he does this in the video, I'm about to fire up my 505 and see if I can get to it on my own... I can't seem to find this in the manual either (bizarre)

There's a part before you execute the actual chopping where there is an option to "adjust". Hit up page 51 in the manual. It tells you better than I could. I might mess around with later today when I'm done with class.

The auto chop had put a marker in on the tail off of the previous chop, all he did was delete the marker so the tail off was on the end of the previous chop where it should be. This often happens to me. It must be when there's a very slight unwanted clip or artifact that the 505 picks up as a transient and therefore puts in a marker. I very rarely use auto chop now, I just use the clipboard method.

so what do you mean when you say you're "not using chop, only using the clip board method" ?

We don't use the autochop feature. We just take the sample we want to chop and use the clipboard to copy it to a few pads. Then we go and edit start/end points on each of copies using the wav edit screen. Autochop also only works on mono samples and not stereo. If autochop divided into equal slices instead of by transients it would much more useful. I find it much quicker to not use autochop

I agree that auto chop becomes a prolonged event sometimes.. I use it when I'm chopping a sample into many pieces.. but now I think I will try it your way.. I like auto-chop now that I know about the 'adjust' functions... if there were a way to transfer an entire bank it would be ideal..

right, but it's quicker your way.. to just copy to many pads and edit each one individually..

do you know if it is possible to hardpan mono samples ?

If you press the menu/wave edit button Pan should be like the 2nd or 3rd option down. You can only hard pan right, left or center. If you need something in between those settings you have to use the pan effect and resample in stereo.

i was thinking about hardpanning drums/bass left and other samples right, so that I can record two separate signals for one track, possibly set up a third track from the 404 or 202 triggered via midi, maybe get a decent mix out of my tascam.. which hasn't seen much glory since 2000-2001
