Bought an sp12 on ebay the other day and while reviewing his feedback I realized the majority of the items he sells are masonic aprons and other free mason attire. Kinda weird doesn't seem like the type of person that would be selling vintage drum macines.

I just died laughing, but yeah an sp12 is worth $800 to a real sampler fiend.
I also hope you folks don't actually have such an inaccurate view of masonry.

I also agree about group going all digital and losing a certain feel and sound ie; living legends. I have also heard new kids that roll all digital and it sounds like it, but has something else that easily rivals the "oldskool". I like when producers can tastefully blend these styles

I am indeed a sampler fiend. Now I will say that the sp12 is not worth 8 bills but that is about as cheap as you can find them nowadays. Shit 1200's are going for just under $3000, Im glad i got mine when they were going for $1500 and i still feel ripped off.

Yeah, but it's history in your house! I've never even seen an emu sp-12 or 1200 with my own eyes let alone program one to play beats. It's bank, but also money well spent

It so user friendly that i would never want another sampler. the fact that you are limited to 10 seconds (5 on the sp12) is really a great benefit forcing you to be created from your limitations. Granted you speed up every sample on the t table then pitch it back down to maximize sample time. I would encourage every beatmaker to try to buy one as expensive as they are. Or at least try one out..but then if you try one you'll have to ha ve one anyway haha.

Yeah, best to stay away until I can afford to buy one. There is a broken SP-12 on ebay @ about $100 that I would love to open and attempt to fix, alas these things can jump up in price as well. I could imagine buying it just for parts if I had a nice SP-12.....but I don't.

They are actually pretty easy to fix and there is a website that sells parts as well as a dedicated forum very similar to this one. Keep in mind that if you ever would consider buying an sp12 to make sure its an sp12 turbo to make sure you get the 5 seconds of sample time. The first run of this machine only has 1.5 seconds sample time in those and that is kinda useless. There is still some of them floating around.

it's a simple fix unless the audio board doesn't go out having sounds come out disorted. alot of parts are difficult to find nowadays unless you buy a broken one for parts. took my sp 12 to the shop that normally fix my 404 in no time, but this time it took almost a year for them to repair the sp 12.lol

also it's not the hardware or software that makes cats have soul it's the individual. unfortunately alot of legendary producers on the hardware were one trick ponies, and couldn't duplicate the magic on software. but there's plenty of ppl who equally dope on both.

funny i found my sp 12 in 2002 for 250. some dood my boy knew had it sitting in his garage broken. originally he was gonna sell it for 150 until the guy cousin came in the room like wow a sp 12 this the drum machine de la soul made albums with. then dood added 100 to the price. i was ready to spend 400 or 500 . then it was 100 to repair the fusebox on the back. so it was like 350 in total. but years down the line it cost alot to get repaired the second time like 500 so i spent 850 total on that old sampler.lol so i gues it's not quit the bargin now
