was looking at getting a microkorg but im interested in being able to create deep fat kick/bass drums like 808s. << is this possible on most synths or is is something i would specifically need a kind of a drum synth for?

My og microkorg has a perfect 808 type sine wave bass boom, it doesn't have the punch of an 808 kick but I think it will satisfy your need.

I also used to make sine wave 808 style kicks with my microkorg. I suggest finding an MS2000, you can split the voices and play a synth on one side of the keyboard and a synth drum sounds on the other.
