SP 404 VOLUME KNOB WONT WORK PLEASE HELP!!

so my volume knob seems like its stuck on one setting. i turn it and all 3 other knobs work but the volume knob spins much faster and the volume does not change. please help if you know how to solve this mystery!

does it stop where it should? If not, sounds like the pot came loose from the solder...gotta crack it open and look. If it does indeed stop where it should, then...um...replace the pot, I guess...gotta crack it open.

It could be more simple than that, though, don't do the hard thing without eliminating the easy possible fixes first.

At least try to remove the knob by prying under it and pulling it off first. If the plastic shaft to the potentiometer is broken then there is you problem, either way as mentioned in the previous post you just need to open it up to diagnose it properly.

i took the knob off and cleaned the inside. im not sure what to do... its just stuck on one volume all the time unless i plug it into something like a PA system or stereo

How does is the volume affected when you run it through a stereo?
Worst case scenario you could de-solder the broken potentiometer and solder a new one on.....or have a friend do it if they have soldering experience.

sounds like the poti itself is broken - no chance with resoldering in that case.

i just received new volume potis and ctrl potis + a pad mat for my 404²..

volume poti costs 4€, ctrl potis 5€ and the pad mat is about 16€
-if you need parts just get in contact with roland. at least the german customer support is pretty cool.

gonna make a video soon to take you through the process of replacing the pads and the potis... pretty busy at the moment though.

thanks for all the help you guys. its just set on a high volume so anything i plug it into is really loud and sounds not good haha. not sure what to do still but trying to figure it out.

Can you set the output gain internally like in the 404sx? If so, you can lower it a few decibels, that might help you in the mean time.

I;m fairly certain that replacing that knob would not be very difficult. I've kept my eye on the rca jacks and knobs since I bought my 303 new at guitar center, but my pads got dusted.
