I know its somewhere in this machine's work instructions-

I push a pad(1) thats on loop, use an effect- then push another pad(4), use an effect (which takes the effect off the pad(1))-----how do I then apply an effect to the pad(1) thats still looping?

BTW- The 404 is one of the greatest toys-

Thank you, I managed to find that in the work instruction----but thats not what I was talking about.......

Here's an example with pad #'s in ( )-----

I push a pad(1) thats on loop (continuous play), apply an effect- then push another pad(4) (while the first pad is playing), apply- oh lets say a different effect (which takes the effect off the pad(1) and applies an effect on pad (4))-----how do I then apply an effect to the pad(1) (which has been playing continuously)?

To have an effect apply to a sample you have to hit it to make it the current pad, so using your scenario I for example I might hit pad 1 again real quick in time with the other samples playing to apply the effect processing chip back to pad 1. Also a clean way to do this is after your down with the effect on pad 4 you can change it's effect to the isolator and then hold down the remain button and press pad 1 to also apply the isolator to both pads simultaneously, now hold down remain again and both effected pads will flash to indicate which ones have the effect applied(pads 1 and 4) press pad 4 and it will remove the isolator effect from pad 4 but not pad 1 and you can change from the isolator effect to whatever you want and neither of your samples ever stopped playing.

You can pre-set the positions of the knobs, too. Like, say you first hit [ 1 ], then you hit [ 4 ]. Now you want to put the [PITCH] effect on [ 1 ] with the knobs at a specific position so that it sounds the way you want right away, without the sloppy-sounding "hold on and let me get the knobs where I them" sound. All you gotta do is:

Hold [REMAIN] (and continue to hold it throughout), hit [ 1 ] so it's your 'current pad', turn the knobs to the desired designations, NOW hit the [PITCH] (and make sure it's just lit and not blinking or it'll just apply the effect to ALL the samples and defeat the purpose of what you were trying to do). This is good if you have a very specific sound that you'd want to play without it looking/sounding like you had to find it first.
