someone point me in the right direction ey?

Post by cartesia »

OK so.. just was thinking about different styles and such today, and was thinking 'that would be cool' and I'm wondering if it already exists, and if so, hoping that one of you could point me towards some artists...

Kind of thing I'm looking for would be something like...

lets say. .

really hard distorted electro/breaks bass/lead lines, but faster tempo. . sorta 150-165bpm. . played somewhat like guitar but not.

...also with oldschool hardcore/drum&bass/nuskool break style drums.. really tough & a little on the hectic side.
add to that anti-establishment punk-esque vocals, crossed with a bit of prodigy-likeness...

so... 'hardcore electro punk breaks' ...or something :P

sorry to be so vague, I dont know any tracks I can really point out or use to describe it, except I guess. . maybe if prodigy replaced their guitars for glitched out distorted circuit bent analogue synths and had cleaner more compressed beats. . or something. i dunno. hah. prodigy vocals arent quite what im thinking though.

the way im thinking of it is basically the butchering up of current commercial dance tracks into something a bit cooler and 'against' what it all stands for. . which is. . mindless hedonism. but it in itself would be somewhat mindless in the same way if it werent for the lyrical content...only in a kind of satirical way. or something. i really havent figured out the finer details yet Im hoping someone else already has haha.

preemptive thanks for help!

Sounds fresh to me, I always like hearing new music which is why I like to make sample based hip hop.

maybe I should just get to work making a mock-up of what it would all sound like :)

welcome back man

been too long!

Things are back on track though. .. I actually had to sell my SP for a while. but I've got the cash back now to get a new one (and then some extra toys  ).. Just gotta decide whether or not the 404 will satisfy me anymore! maybe 2 will. or a 555... or a 606.. far too much choice on this planet!

Have you seen The Presets live? they sort of do what you mention.... sort of. Their live shows are very much harder and punkier (if that's a word) than their releases.

Hey lazer sword is pretty sweet!
Something like that I guess, but at a higher pace, and with vocals. and maybe alittle more 'directed' rather than being more focused on technical glitching etc.. more like a song lead by a strong melody/main riff.

drewzle the evolver got sold unfortunately... Needed money bad, sold my 404 at that point too for a while. Slowly building back up my gear.

Venetian snares is pretty sweet, but not really what Im thinking for this sound.

In terms of technology, I was actually looking at those 505 vids thinking it looked prettysweet! (two with a DJ mixer?! that seems like itd be off the hook)

If someoen could compare 606 to 505 for me, thatd be cool 8)
Things I like about the 505 - the multiple sequencing tracks, the pitched keyboard parts.
