problem playing samples over patterns and os update trouble

hello

i have two questions.

first,
i sampled some drum hits onto the internal cf card banks. i made three, 2 bar patterns on bank a. i sampled piano into bank a. I press [pattern select] and play one of my drum patterns. while that pattern is looping i click [pattern select] again to get out of the pattern mode (while pattern is still looping) i then mess around with my piano samples. everything is fine. however when i use the third of my three patterns my piano samples are cut short. the first two patterns my piano samples are fine. but my third pattern it will not play the full piano samples.. it cuts them off short. it also won't let me loop these piano samples (again, the first and second pattern are fine, but when i playing the third pattern my sampled piano is cut out before the sample finishes. anyone know what might be going on?

second,
i currently have os version 1.2. I downloaded version 1.4 and off rolands site and tried to install that to see if it would solve my sample cut off problem but i can not get it installed. I uncompressed the download folder and took the bin file and placed it in the root of my cf card. when i put the cf into the 404 and turn it on nothing happens. please help as the rolnd site support links are dead.

maybe you went over the 16 voices? Try to resample your piano in mono and see if it works then.

If the first two patterns work I don't think it would be polyphony issue on the third be I'd check that, if all your drum hits are stereo and so is your piano you might be using all the voices but my 303 has less voices and I almost never exceed polyphony. I have noticed on my 303 that when I have a short pattern like 2 bars with just a drum loop and I play a sample over like you are that it will sometimes cut the sample off every time it loops on the 2nd bar, but all I have to do usually is just increase the drum pattern to 4 bars and the whole sample will play even if it's longer than 4 bars. It's weird that it does that but, increasing your pattern to 4 or 8 bars should work.

As for loading the new OS off the card, I believe there is a combination of buttons you have to press to load it, it won't just update automatically like a computer.

so the 404 can do max 8 stereo samples at once? thanks for that info... should have known that before i bought it.

i tried changing from 2 to 4 bars, it did not work, but what i did notice is that over the two bars of silence my sample would play longer then over the 2 bars of drums. the drums were sampled off this website (www.dirtydrums.com) and when i sampled them in individually i was lazy with the end region of the sample, to the ear only a few times during the pattern did more then 2 drum hits sequence on the same step but all hits lingered for extra time causing me to run out of voices

the pdf that came with 1.04 from rolandus.com says too just insert the memory card and turn on the machine. if this is wrong, does anyone out there know the proper way?

Also, the "cut off" issue could be caused by the sample itself...is it set for gate, loop, or neither...if neither gate or loop are lit on the sample, you should be fine...I noticed when trying to build a pattern, samples set for loop didn't appear on the second bar...

just to clarify; first problem taken care of when i trimmed drum hit samples accurately.

tried a couple times, re downloaded etc..
thinking the good doctor is right, and i'm missing a step when the card is in the sp.

this couldn't in any way be a mac related problem could it?

I doubt it, but an easy way to find out is locate a pc and download the file and load that version and see if it works.
