Yeah since my medium is tape or cd I really have no need to exceed 16bits, besides the above stated reasons. I've made beats that are recorded at high bit rates and all the bells and whistles through Pro-Tools and have had people tell me they like the way my beats recorded on my 1980's sony stereo cassette-corder better. I love tape sound, I have a tape player in my car I just bought so I've been making mixtapes of my vinyl collection and making duplicates of my own beattape masters.

I share your admiration for the cassette! One cool trick you prolly know is you can use most component tape decks as two-track multitrackers.

Like.. You plug an SP in (mono) to the left input, and a keyboard into the right, and record along, preferably monitoring in summed mono.. you eventually have to transfer the tracks to another medium to hear back properly- it's all a little awkward but a fun way to mess around.

Also if you have a vcr that says hi-fi on it, then you can plug in your sampler to the rca in and stereo track to a video cassette tape which has really high quality tape sound compared to the cheap audio cassttes that are normally used to track onto tape at home.
