Percussion samples anyone.

Post by nttht »

I seem to be in dire need of percussion samples seeing that I only have like ten wav. files on my hard drive. Does anyone have any good percussion samples that they would like to share?

True, but I've found that most of these 'packs' that some users post usually contain some rather dodgy samples that I always end up deleting later. Kinda like the same with those "1000+ drum breaks" packages. My intention in this thread was for people post some of their favorite percussion sounds. That way I can narrow it down and try to create a huge folder of great percs to share with other producers. And newcomers will be able to find a bunch of percussion samples in one thread without having to go through an entire sub-section.

It's worth a try I suppose.

I thought making beats was about digging... if someone just gives you a bunch of samples then you miss out on the excitement of throwing a record on and hearing the perfect percussion samples yourself.

^this!

After a while you will realize getting nice sample packs is not that great. Start learning to layer drums and make your own sample packs. Spend the weekend doing that and now I have a good 20 kicks and snares that are dope and then a good 30ish hats and percs that I can use that are also dope. Took me a day or so to do but now I have my OWN drum kit that I made and can freak how I want to. Nothing like showing someone a beat and they say 'oh yeah i got that drum sample pack too' ;) that makes me feel like a tool.

I could also make all your beats for you if that helps.

If you made all my beats for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Make them entirely out of percussions.

try making some of your own using SP mic or a mic plugged in, like keys rattling, pot pan lid being smacked, glass jar ding, slam a door, etc. Then EQ/compress on the SP for some power.

I almost choked from laughing. I had to go to YouTube to relive some of those drum solos. Thank you.

And I checked out that Airto record. I'm probably gonna have to cop it if it's at the record store in town. Otherwise, I'll just have to go on eBay.

I chopped up blavatsky's drums last night: https://www.box.com/s/vbq7jwj50nkokl1mswmo
Some good stuff in here for you to start layering/EQing for some dope drums. Layering drums is KEY and one of the easiest way for you to start making your own drum kits and sounds.

keep it 100
